Jones, a faculty memeber of Milligan College, had travelled to Bristol, Tennessee to hear Judge Strouse preach. Under Judge Strouse preaching, Mr. Jones found the Holy Spirit. Because Jones became a joliness preacher, he was asked to resign his faculty position as well as his membership in the Christian church.
