Scope Note: Historical Russia refers to the land settled by Eastern Slavs and the Finno-Ugric peoples, prior to the establishment of the modern nation of Russia. Historical Russia was established by the Varangian chieftain Rurik in 862 and centered in Novgorod, including areas inhabited by Ilmen Slavs, Veps, and Votes. Kievan Rus', the first united East Slavic state, was founded by Rurik's successor Oleg of Novgorod in 882.

Scope and Contents

Mentioned in the letter was that George Vieluth was the first missionary of CHOG to Europe in 1901. A notice was put in Gospel Trumpet for ministers to come to Hamburg to preach. There was a growth of churches in Latvia and Brother Boonen needed workers, Vieluth went.
