A Brief History of the CHOG, Beckley, WV, May 23, 1949
Scope and Contents
Revival held in the Raleigh County Court House in July and August of 1928.
Place of worship rented from First Baptist Church.
Building site purchased in April of 1930. Controversy over city ordinance regarding churches being build in residential areas. Legas case went to the state Supreme Court of WV. The court ruled on the side of the church.
New building was completed in December of 1930.
With the assistance of the church, two other congregations began - Mullins and Lester
Rachel Bailey Rawlinson believes that the meetings in the Court House was held around the year 1916.
Oldest church in the area is Oakhill, WV.
