History of the CHOG in Whelling, WV - 1910-1949
Scope and Contents
CHOG had beginning through a series of meetings and services by individuals and groups.
Efforts to establish church in early part of 1910.
Revival held in Pythian Castle building.
Methodist members joined CHOG fellowship in 1910 through the influence of Kennedy Frew.
Two home Sunday schools - one on McColloch St. and the other on Jacob St.
Tent Meeting revival - 1914
Resistance to meetings.
Room rented at 40th and Jacob St. where the group became organized as the local CHOG congregation.
Property purchased on southwest corner of 37th and Eoff St.
Beo of George Steer.
Purchase of St. Andrew Protestant Episcopal church building located on the northeast corner of 37th and Eoff Street S. After some renovation, the building was occupied and dedicated in 1930.
Name of church was changed in 1944 to Southside CHOG.
