William Swonger Letter Regarding Various Churches, July 1, 1949
Scope and Contents
Includes ministers coming to Hathorn and renting an abandoned school house to use for conducting services in 1893. If people desired to support the work of the church they were encouraged to drop off money in a collection box located at the back of the church on a wall. The ministers were disappointed in the support they received as they "moved out."
In the fall of the same year, a tent meetiing was held by preachers. The writer's mother, Sarah Swonger, was one of the converts. As a result of their tent meeting the work at Hawthorn began.
