Materials Specific Details

1st edition, limited (1/275) hand tied paperwraps, with gold foil jacket, with original mailing envelope addressed in Frost's hand (as issued). Issued as a Christmas greeting, this copy has the "Elinor and Robert Frost" imprint. The entire edition was only 820 copies. Illustrated with a woodcut by J.J. Lankes. The envelope is addressed to "Mr Alexander Garrett / 7 King's Bench Walk / Temple / London E.C.4 / England" in blue fountain pen ink. 7 King's Bench Walk is a historical location of barristers specializing in commercial law, suggesting that Mr Garrett may have been legal counsel to frost. These little Christmas greetings were originally introduced by Joseph Blumenthal at the Spiral Press without Frost's permission, though they quickly became a seasonal tradition for Frost and Blumenthal. The present item is just the fifth (Crane B5) in what became a long series of Christmas greetings. Minor wear to the gold foil wrappers, else quite fine. Among the most scarce of the Frost Christmas greetings, and particularly so with Frost's hand addressed envelope.
