Materials Specific Details
1st edition, full green cloth, w/illustrated dj. Speccially signed by Frost, who inscribed this copy to fellow author, Ardyth Kennelly Ullman, using two lines of verse: "we dance round in a ring and suppose / But the secret sits in the middle and knows / Robert Frost / For Ardyth K Ullman / December 1951" in black fountain pen. Ardyth Kennelly was most widely known for her best selling book, "The Peaceable Kingdom", published by Houghton Mifflin, 1949. She also wrote several other popular books, and later in her career she became known for her stunning visual arts. She was married to Dr. Egon V. Ullman, and their tasteful bookplate is on the book's pastedown. A lovely association copy between these two prominent authors, seldom found with dust jacket, and particularly desirable with two lines of verse written in Front's hand. (Crane A35.1) Light wear to jacket includes edge tears, else only minimal wear. Fine.
