Historical Sketch of the 1st CHOG, Spokane, Washington
Scope and Contents
The first CHOG message preached in Spokane was possibly in 1892.
Services were held in different homes.
There was a Tent Meeting in 1895.
A Mission opened at 336 W. Main St.
An assembly meeting was held in December of 1902.
Meetings were held in the home of Rose Graham until Fall of 1903.
A hall was rented in 1904.
Money was raised to purchase lots. Mission home and church building were erected and sold in 1907.
Hillyard church started.
Bible school opened in 1917.
Office Disctrict Overseer created. All ministers were invited to join.
By-laws changed to include all ministers "without joining".
Name of Disctrict changed to Presbytery of the CHOG of the Inland Empire which issued cards to be ordained.
After hearing sermon delivered by F. S. Smith on a charismatic church government, the District Overseer name abolished and the team moderater was substituted.
Inland Empire Home Missionary Board organized and incorporated.
Page and Sound Home Missionary Board served Western, Washington by farming.
Idaho and Oregon had similar organizations.
Annual meetings began in 1919 at Walla Walla, Washington, then moved to Portland. Meeting discussion was to establish adn support the Pacific Bible College, former name being Spokane Bible Institute.
