From The General Theme section of the manuscript. God raises men, methods, and movements to meet great nneds. In 1880 a man, a method, and a movement were raised to bring the religious world to the realization that God's children are one. Today the man has died and the method is ineffective; but the movement continues with the same function. We ought not be ashamed of the man or of the peculiar method, for they were God's inventions for the specific situation in which they appeared. But as the situation has changed, so have the method and the organization which put it into practice. Yet hte movement retains the same message -- a united church for the divided world -- and it seeks constantly to adapt its approach to fit the changing scene in which it lives.
